Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) Sunil Kumar Bansal today told that presently the situation in Sambalpur is peaceful.
“Certain unpleasant incidents, etc have taken place yesterday so we have rushed in additional police forces and senior officers are camping there. At present there is complete peace there,” said Bansal speaking to reporters while he was at Balianta on the city outskirts to inaugurate the new building of the police station there which comes under the Police Commissionerate Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.
The DGP said that he will be reviewing the situation at Sambalpur and take appropriate action to maintain law and order as is required in a city.
“Appropriate action will be taken against those who have provoked or are involved in these incidents,” the DGP warned.
Meanwhile, the DGP Bansal arrived at Sambalpur through a special helicopter.
He is accompanied by ADG (Law & Order) RK Sharma, and ADG (Intelligence) Sanjeeb Panda.
Amid reports of fresh violence in Sambalpur city during a Hanuman Jayanti rally on Friday, the district administration clamped curfew today until further orders.
Internet services in the city have been shut for another 48 hours.
An order from the State Home Department said that access to internet and data services including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms will continue to remain suspended till 10 AM of April 17.
