Balasore: The district police have arrested 11 persons including three women who were allegedly involved in launching an attack on Balasore Sub Collector Kunal Sitaram Chouhan on Friday. The group is allegedly engaged in illegal sand mining and had pelted stones at the Sub Collector who had gone to their area for seizing vehicles involved in the illegal activity.
Chouhan assaulted by the sand mining mafia at Dahapada under Sahadevkhunta police last afternoon. He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital and treated for the injuries. Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde and SP Sagarika Nath visited the DHH and inquired about the matter from the Sub Collector.
Police teams were pressed into action by evening which led to the arrests of the accused. A large posse of cops has been deployed in the region where the illegal activity was underway and Dahapada. A probe has been initiated into the matter based on the complaint of Chouhan, reports stated.
