Junagarh (Kalahandi): Junagarh police on Thursday arrested Mahendra Majhi, the prime accused in the Sankarpala triple murder case.
“Police after successful investigation of the October 1 triple murder case of Sankarpala village have arrested the accused Mahendra Majhi and have seized the weapon used in the crime from his possession,” informed Dhiraj Chopdar, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dharmagarh.
Briefing reporters here, Chopdar said that the accused suspected his victims practiced witchcraft and were responsible for his ill health.
Therefore, to take revenge he murdered them in a pre-planned manner, Chopdar added.
“The accused Mahendra Majhi has been arrested under section 302 of the IPC and he will be forwarded to court today,” the SDPO further informed.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Sunday, Raimati Majhi, her two-year-old son and 60-year-old Mahendra Kumar of Sankarpala village under Junagarh police limits were found murdered with their throats slit with a sharp weapon.
On being informed police with the help of a scientific team and sniffer dog investigated the triple murder. During the course of the investigation, police found that Mahendra Majhi, son of Raimati’s brother-in-law Trinath Majhi was absconding.
On Tuesday evening police traced and nabbed Mahendra Majhi through mobile phone tracking. Police also conducted a crime scene recreation and arrested Mahendra Majhi today.
