**Bhubaneswar:** Even though wife of Sandeep Hati has been asked by the Commissionerate Police to join as Home Guard on compassionate ground here, she is apprehensive of her job security as she has joined without uniform or job letter provided till date.
Talking to media on Saturday, Sandeep’s bereft wife Rosalin Das said, “I’m thankful to the Chief Minister and also the State Home Guard Association. I’ve not yet been handed over any appointment letter even though I’ve been asked to join. On Dusshera day, I was called and met the authorities at the Lingaraj Police Station here. I’m still going and coming, but ignorant of my job security”.
Sandeep’s father-in-law Upendra Nath Das told media, “My son-in-law’s Home Guard job has been given to her. But, except a certificate, no formal job letter has been issued nor uniform given. She has been told that she would be given the uniform in 2-4 days. My demand was a government job to my daughter. Compensation matter is yet to be resolved.”
In his reactions, State Home Guard Association President Upendra Mohapatra said, “We’re yet to receive any information either verbally or in shape of letter from the Government that she has been duly rehabilitated. Our demand was Rs 10 lakh compensation. We’d also demanded job to his wife and higher education facility to his son. We’d also demanded total salary since March 22, 2013. We’re still on fast- unto-death stir and will continue for an indefinite period till all our demands are taken into consideration by the Government. Sandeep Hati’s demand too is yet to be met by the Government. In future, we’ll resort to state-wide ‘jail bharo’ strike.”
Notably, Sandeep Hati (45) had immolated himself before Naveen Niwas (residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik) on September 2 night seeking his reinstatement in the Home Guard service.
After battling for life for nine days, he died in Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital on September 12 morning.
He has first rushed to Capital Hospital here and had been subsequently shifted to SCB having sustained more than 70 per cent burn injuries.
Sandeep was dismissed from the job on charges of his participation in a demonstration, organised by the State Home Guard Association to highlight their service-related issues.
However, the home guard before his death had told media persons that he had been dismissed from the job for any other reason as he had not participated in the demonstration.
