Boudh: A person sustained critical bullet injuries after the Sarpanch of Kusarabandh allegedly opened fire at him on Friday late at night over past enmity in Boudh district.
The victim has been identified as Rajendra Karn, a resident of Kusurbandh village under Manmunda police limits.
According to sources, the accused Sarpanch Saroj Karn’s family had been at odds with the family of the injured over a previous dispute over past dispute.
The tension escalated into a violent confrontation around 9 pm on Friday with Saroj, his brother, and his father involved in the brutal assault.
Afterwards, Saroj allegedly fired a blank round at Rajendra. Later, he shot two rounds, hitting Rajendra’s legs. Thereafter, Saroj, along with his father and brother, allegedly brutally assaulted Rajendra with sticks, leaving him severely injured.
Rajendra’s family rushed him to Manamunda Community Health Centre for initial treatment and later shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was reportedly shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Sambalpur.
The victim’s family meanwhile filed a complaint against Saroj at Manamunda police station seeking stringent punishment for the accused Sarpanch.
