**Angul:** The post mortem report of the royal Bengal tiger Mahavir has revealed that the wild cat died due to multiple organ failure. The tiger, which was relocated to Satkosia Tiger Reserve from MP’s Kanha Tiger Reserve suffered from an infection because of a deep wound on its neck. The infection worsened its health and the tiger succumbed within a couple of days, Additional Principal Chief Conservator (PCCF) of Forests and Field Director of Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary, Sudarsan Panda said.
“The tissue samples of the tiger have been sent to the laboratory and a detailed report on the incident will be made public once the lab analysis is out,” Panda added.
On the other hand, the tigress Sundari, which was tranquilised on November 7, has recovered healthily and is leading a normal life at the Raiguda (safe) enclosure of Satkosia Tiger Reserve here.
Sundari, which allegedly killed two human beings and injured another, was tranquilised by a special team comprising members of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), National Tiger Conservation Authority, Veterinarians and Forest Officials.
Panda had conducted an inspection of the Raiguda enclosure and examined the condition of the tigress. “The tigress is keeping healthy. Her movements and diet are normal. A team of the NTCA had examined the health condition of Sundari on Friday and Saturday,” said Panda.
The Additional PCCF denied media reports which stated that the tigress health was critical. On shifting Sundari to a another location, amid protests from the locals of Satkosia, Panda said that the final call will be taken by the NTCA, WII, State Government and Government of India.
