Cuttack: Sawing of logs for the construction of chariots for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings commenced at the Government Sawmill of the Forest Department at Khapuria in Cuttack as per tradition on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami today.
According to reports, the process of sawing logs started after due puja on the arrival of a member of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee at the sawmill with the ‘agynamala’ (authorisation to proceed) from Lord Jagannath.
While 812 pieces of logs are required for the construction of three chariots for Lord Jagannath and his siblings, a total of 450 logs have arrived at the sawmill in the first phase. These include phasi, simili, asana, dhaura, rai, mai, etc logs. Every day sawing of the logs will be undertaken from 6.00 AM till 9.00 PM and as many as 30 workers will be engaged for the purpose.
