Bhubaneswar: State Bank of India (SBI) today announced that it is a partner in the ongoing rebuild process of Odisha in the aftermath of severe cyclonic storm FANI that has left behind trails of devastation soon after its landfall on May 3.
Convening a press meet organized today at the premises of its Local Head Office here, SBI MD (R&DB) P.K. Gupta also announced that loan re-structuring will be effected for affected people soon.
In his media reactions, the SBI MD (R&DB) said, “Most of our branches are now functional. There are some ATMs where there is no power supply and also the issue of connectivity. Hence, now lies the responsibility of making them all functional.”
He informed, “As lots of people have suffered heavy loss, our immediate responsibility is to restructure the loan taken by those people. All our branches in the affected areas will do so. SLBC and all the banks have together made the re-structuring scheme. Accordingly, all the existing loans will be re-structured. Moratorium will be allowed to the people so that they won’t pay in any way for the next 12 months. If required for long period, it would also be done.”
The SBI MD made it clear, “It is not for whole Odisha only for those affected by the recent cyclone. The State Government announces the affected areas and the loan restructuring is done accordingly. In fact, maximum responsibility of loan restructuring is on SBI as we have maximum number of branches here in the State.”
Addressing the press, he also focused on various products of the banks, which are immensely helpful to the customers. He has also elaborated on several new initiatives for the customers.
On his visit to Puri on 05.06.2019, the most affected place on account of cyclone FANI, he said that now it is the time to rebuild Odisha and SBI is a partner in the process.
Gupta expressed that SBI is committed to serve the people of Odisha. He also committed to provide 19000 mosquito nets to District Authorities for further delivery to the affected victims in Puri district.
Considering huge loss of trees due to cyclone FANI, SBI has also decided to plant 15000 trees in the affected areas and each branch of SBI in Odisha will plant 100 trees during monsoon season.
A sand art on World Environment Day has also been inaugurated by Gupta with a message to save the mother earth and protect from air pollution.
SBI with its 872 branches in Odisha has 706 branches in rural and semi urban branches. It has 2840 ATMs and 4227 CSPs and more being envisaged in the coming years.
Responded to the number of questions from the media representatives, Gupta also said, “SBI is to lend in tune with the commitment given to SLBC during this financial year. SBI has major contributions in MUDRA loan, SME, KCC, farm mechanizations and allied advances.
As per a press note released on the occasion, SBI has already provided more than 11,000 loans to customers for rehabilitation and resuming their livelihood activities in FANI-affected districts. SBI has also provided more than 1300 loans to SHGs, over 8000 Agri loan plus PMEGP and MUDRA loans. SBI has also restructured 200 SME and House Building loans. Besides, SBI has proposed to provide loans to 500 fishermen for purchasing boats and nets.
