SC Rejects Leave Petition Filed By Sanjay Das Burma Over Brahmagiri Poll Irregularities

**Bhubaneswar: ** Upholding Orissa High Court’s verdict, Supreme Court on Wednesday also quashed the special leave petition filed by BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma over poll irregularities in Brahmagiri assembly segment in 2014 general election.

While hearing on the case, the apex court upheld the Orissa High Court verdict and thereby allows usual trial of the case in the High Court.

The case was filed by late Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra (fondly known as Lulu Mohapatra) challenging the victory of incumbent Brahmagiri MLA Sanjay Das Burma.

Earlier, the High Court had rejected petition of Das Burma who had appealed to dismiss Lulu’s petition in July 2015. Das Burma was the then Food and Civil Supplies Minister of Odisha.

Even after the death of Lulu, his elder brother has prayed the High Court and Supreme Court to be his younger brother’s successor in the case and the appeal has been admitted.
