Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths apprehended a Data Entry Operator (DEO) at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for accepting bribe from a patient’s attendant to give medicine.
DEO Smruti Ranjan Sahoo at the Department of Hepatology was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,000 from the son of a poor patient undergoing treatment for Hepatitis.
Sahoo demanded the bribe in exchange for issuing prescribed medicines, which were distributed free of cost by the government. When the complainant refused to pay, Sahoo denied providing the medicines, prompting the complainant to report the matter to the Vigilance.
The vigilance laid a trap and caught Sahoo while accepting the illegal gratification. The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized. Searches are currently underway at two locations linked to Sahoo to investigate disproportionate assets.
Cuttack Vigilance registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
