Cuttack: SCB Medical College & Hospital is fully geared to handle novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) said a health official.
“We are fully prepared to handle novel Coronavirus,” informed Dr. B N Moharana, Emergency Officer, SCBMC&H talking to newsmen while telling that the institution has always stood up at the time of any disaster to date.
Giving details of the preparedness level for COVID-19 at the State’s oldest and government-run premier health care facility, Dr. Moharana said, “We have 46 general beds and 8 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, that apart we can immediately increase another 17 beds if so required”.
“We are going to add another 60 beds in a different building for isolation and quarantine since COVID-19 has been declared as a pandemic by World Health Organisation (WHO),” he added.
The Emergency Officer informed that blood samples and throat swabs of COVID-19 suspects are now being tested at Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) of the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) in Bhubaneswar and test results are available within 3-5 hours.
He pointed out that since WHO has declared the outbreak of COVID-19 as a pandemic, the State government has declared it as a ‘State Disaster’ and has provisioned a corpus of Rs 200 crore to augment the Public Health Response Fund to combat the threat of the pandemic and for making the required expenditure.
Further, the Chief Minister has issued guidelines to shut schools, cinemas and restrict gatherings to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19.
