Cuttack: Junior doctors at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack went on a 72-hour strike to show solidarity with their colleagues at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where a 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and murdered.
The junior doctors are demanding a thorough investigation, justice for the victim, and improved safety and security measures for healthcare professionals nationwide. During the strike, emergency services will continue uninterrupted, but other hospital services like OPD, OT, and laboratory services have been stopped, said Subrat Kumar Sahoo, president of the Junior Doctors’ Association, SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The Junior Doctors’ Association demands a thorough investigation and justice for the victim. Patients are facing difficulties due to the suspended services.
“We have gathered here in support of the resident doctors of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. We condemned the brutal incident at Kolkata. We want the real culprit should be brought behind bars. has not been confined to West Bengal only, rather it has become a national issue. Our strike will continue for 72 hours. After then, we will convene the general body meeting and the next course of action will be taken accordingly,” He added.
“During our cease-work, no emergency works would be hampered. We ceased work at OPD, indoor service, elective OT and laboratory. Patient care will not be hampered, he added,” he explained.
