Bhubaneswar: The School & Mass Education department of the Odisha government has sought action taken reports (ATR) on school bag weight reduction from Collectors of all districts.
A departmental circular has asked Collectors to furnish action taken reports (ATR) on constitution of squads, its members in their respective districts with regard to the implementation of guidelines for the reduction of the weight of school bags in compliance with the instructions of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
The department through the circular has requested Collectors to furnish the required information latest by February 20.
The department has claimed in the circular that it has repeatedly issued instructions earlier to constitute squads at the district level under the orders of District Collector with the DE0s/ OPCs as Chairman and BE0s/DCP0s/ police officers/ any other officers/ NGOs as the District Collector may decide, as members of the squad to visit schools including private English medium schools, affiliated to CBSE & ICSE to verify their compliance on the guidelines for reduction of weight of school bags and instructions of MHRD.
It further says, “All complaints on violation of any of the provisions must be verified by the squad and report need to be submitted to the respective Directorates and Department as well. But till date no action taken report has been received regarding the constitution of squad in your district, its members and action taken after constitution of squads”.
