Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Phulbani on Tuesday sentenced a former president of a school education committee in Kandhamal district to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after convicting him for misappropriation of government money.
According to an official press release issued by the Odisha Vigilance, Manoj Pradhan, ex-president, School Education Committee (SEC), Sikabadi Primary School under Raikia block in Kandhamal district, who was charge-sheeted by the anti-graft agency for misappropriating government money to the tune of Rs 5,83,690 meant for construction of new class room building in the premises of Sikabadi Primary School was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani and sentenced to undergo RI for 3 years.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on convict Pradhan. The court in its order said that convict Pradhan in default of payment of fine, to undergo RI for 6 months more for the offence under section 409 IPC.
The court further sentenced him to undergo RI for 3 years and to pay a fine of Rs.10,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo RI for 6 months for the offence under section 120-B IPC.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
