Bhubaneswar: A 52-year-old headmistress of Batagaon Upper Primary School under Nakatideul block in Sambalpur district died due to electrocution while trying to switch on a motor pump to draw water from a well at her residence on Tuesday morning.
The deceased is Anita Purohit, wife of Santosh Purohit, a resident of Lugadia village.
According to reports, Anita was electrocuted when she came into contact with a live wire while trying to switch on the motor pump. Her husband, Santosh, suffered injuries while trying to rescue her. Two locals intervened and used a wooden stick to disconnect the electrical wire, saving Santosh’s life.
Anita was pronounced dead by doctors at Naktideula Hospital, where she was rushed along with her husband, who also suffered injuries while trying to save her.
Anita was known for her dedication to her students and her philanthropic work. Her death has sent shockwaves through the community, with many paying tribute to her memory.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
