Bhubaneswar: A school student reportedly died after being run over by a speeding truck at Chheliapada village under Dharmasala police station in Jajpur district on Thursday morning.
According to reports, Ganesh Ghadai’s nine-year-old son was cycling on the road when he met with the mishap. The victim’s family rushed him to DharamsalaHospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who staged a roadblock demanding justice and compensation for the victim’s family. Protesters have blocked the road, demanding that heavy vehicles be banned from the route permanently.
“We will not allow heavy vehicles to pass through this road until our demands are met. The district administration must take responsibility for the student’s death and provide adequate compensation to the family” said a local resident.
Upon being informed, police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, the truck driver has been detained by the villagers.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for improved road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
