Sundargarh: All schools and colleges in Sundargarh town will remain closed on Friday, January 16, in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the urban area.
Sundargarh Collector and District Magistrate Subhankar Mohapatra issued an official order on Thursday announcing the closure as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
“In view of the prevailing law and order situation in Sundargarh municipality area, all schools and colleges functioning in the urban area are hereby closed on January 16,” the order stated.
The decision follows a violent clash between two groups in Sundargarh town on Thursday afternoon, which left at least 12 people injured, including four police personnel.
According to sources, the clash reportedly erupted after a petty quarrel and soon escalated, with both groups allegedly pelting stones at each other. Some individuals were also reported to have used swords during the confrontation, creating panic in the area.
In an effort to prevent the spread of rumours and restore normalcy, the district administration has suspended internet services in Sundargarh. The suspension came into effect at 6 pm on Thursday and will remain in force for 24 hours, officials said.
Security has been tightened in sensitive areas of the town, and police personnel have been deployed to maintain peace. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the administration.
