Bhubaneswar: A Subarnapur-based farmer reportedly died of scrub typhus, transmitted through bites from infected mites. This latest fatality follows a series of deaths in Bargarh and other districts.

The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old farmer Lekru Sahu, a resident of Akhidad village under Binika police limits in Subarnapur district.

The deceased had gone to his paddy field to water his crops when he was bitten by the infected mite, contracting scrub typhus. His family initially rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bargarh.

As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Samaleswari Private Nursing Home where he died today after 11 days of treatment. Despite receiving intensive care, he succumbed to the disease.

As per research, scrub typhus, transmitted through bites from infected mites, has become a major concern in districts like Bargarh and Subarnapur. Transmitted through bites from infected mites, also known as chiggers, this disease can be fatal if left untreated. The symptoms are easily mistaken for other illnesses, but common signs include fever and chills, headache, body aches, and in some cases.
