Bhubaneswar: With one more patient succumbing to scrub typhus in Bargarh district of Odisha on Sunday, the toll due to this vector-borne disease reached seven in the district.
The victim is a 48-year-old patient from Sohela locality in Bargarh district while undergoing treatment at a private hospital, said Bargarh District Public Health Officer (DPHO) Sadhu Charan Dash.
A central team is visiting Odisha to assess the rise in scrub typhus cases in the state especially in the western region.
On Saturday, a six-member team visited the scrub typhus-hit Sundargarh district to take stock of the situation and the expert team examined the situation in Bargarh district on Sunday.
The central team is scheduled to visit various districts of western Odisha for a survey at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, of the 1,775 blood samples tested in Bargarh, 89 were found positive for scrub typhus so far.
