Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Women’s Commission Chairperson, Shobhana Mohanty, has informed that a team will be visiting Durgapur, West Bengal, to look into the gang rape incident of an Odia medical student. Mohanty expressed her outrage over the barbaric incident and assured that she would do everything possible to ensure justice for the victim.
“I am in touch with the victim’s family, and a team of administrative officials, including the ADM and district welfare officers, have already visited the spot and discussed the matter with the local administration and police,” Mohanty said at a press meet. She emphasised that no one is above the law and that the perpetrators would face strict punishment.
Mohanty also criticised the law and order situation in West Bengal, drawing parallels to the RG Kar rape and murder incident. “The law and order situation in West Bengal remains the same,” she said, expressing her concern over the safety of women in the state. Mohanty assured that she would strive to ensure justice for the Odia student who faced such a heinous crime.
