Bhadrak: The Bhadrak district administration on Sunday imposed Section 144 of CrPC in Apanda Chhak from 11.00 am on April 16 to 11.00 am on April 18 following clashes between villagers of Bhadrak and Keonjhar groups over a boundary dispute.
According to reports, at least 10 persons have been injured in the incident near Orali chhak on the Anandpur-Bhadrak road on Saturday.
The violence was a fall-out of a long-standing dispute between the residents of Orali and Apanda village in Bhadrak district over Orali chhak. Villages of Apanda have been demanding that the name of Oralu chhak be renamed Apanda chhak as it came under their revenue border.
Trouble began on Saturday when the villagers of the Apanda area tried to install a signboard but it was vehemently opposed by the villagers of Orali. As tension intensified several shops were vandalised and a car and a bike were allegedly set on fire.
As per an order issued by Bhadrak Sub-Collector Manoj Patra, “It has come to the notice based on the report submitted by the IIC, Bonth police station, that a serious law and order situation occurred owing to the boundary dispute between two villages bordering Keonjhar and Bhadrak at Apanda Chhak (Orali chhak).”
Following the arson, Bonth police station IIC was directed to promulgate the prohibitory order at the spot and take immediate steps to disperse the mob. Palpable tension still prevails in the area and adequate police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
