The accused, identified as Ajit Gouda, son of Trinath Gouda of Sadangipalli village under Sheragada tehsil in Ganjam district, was apprehended from Bissamcuttack village in Rayagada district.

According to police sources, Gouda was on the run following the brutal murder of Patnaik, who was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons on October 23, 2024, while returning home on a bicycle. The first accused in the case was earlier arrested and produced in court.
