Cuttack: Another person suspected with novel coronavirus was reported from here today whose samples will now be sent for testing.
The first case was that of an MBBS student of Phulbani district who recently returned from China, which the epicentre of the outbreak. The second case is that of a female student who has also recently returned from China and showed a symptom of cold and cough. Both have been placed in the isolation ward of the SCB Medical College and Hospital and are in stable condition currently.
SCB’s Emergency Officer Dr Bhubanananda Maharana briefed media regarding the case. He said, “As a precautionary measure we have kept the patient in isolation ward and are taking necessary precautions. The samples have been for sent for testing to NIB, Pune and the first results are expected to be back in the next two and the second report in another five days.”
“Both the patients are completely stable and are being given symptomatic treatment. If the reports are negative they will be discharged as per their condition and if it’s positive they will be given prescribed treatment,” added Dr Maharana.
Notably, the Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha Government has open special wards in five premier hospitals at different locations across the state for dealing with coronavirus cases. SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has opened a special ward with 76 beds for possible cases.
