Boudh: Panic has gripped residents of Adenigarh in Odisha’s Boudh district after a second massive sinkhole appeared near the under-construction tunnel of the Khordha-Bolangir railway project. The new sinkhole, which emerged on Tuesday afternoon, measures around 10 feet in diameter and plunges 30 feet deep. It is located just 50 meters from the site of a similar collapse reported a day earlier.
The repeated soil collapses have raised serious concerns about the structural integrity and safety of the ongoing railway tunnel construction — a key segment of the much-anticipated Khordha-Bolangir railway line. Local sources report that the soil in the region is unstable and loose, making the area highly susceptible to subsidence, especially following rainfall.
Railway authorities are yet to release an official statement, while worried locals are urging immediate intervention from railway authorities. Many fear that continued rainfall could trigger further collapses and pose a significant risk to nearby settlements.
The tunnel, which is one of the longest on the Khordha-Balangir route, is a vital infrastructure component aimed at improving connectivity in Odisha’s interior districts.
