Sambalpur: Section 163 of the BNS has been promulgated and security arrangements have been beefed up in Sambalpur in view of the eviction drive to remove encroachments from government land and beautify the city. The eviction drive was launched in the Motijharan and Sunapali areas of the city on Thursday.
The restrictions imposed prevents gathering of four or more people within a 200-metre radius of Motijharan Square. Police have been making repeated announcements over the public address systems appealing to the people to cooperate with the authorities in removing encroachments.
The road connecting the National Highway from Dhanupali Thana Street in Sambalpur was heavily encroached and even a permanent construction was made there by blocking the drain. This created a traffic problem in the area.
The Commissioner of the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP), Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), and station officers of different police stations, are supervising the eviction process.
So far, no untoward incident has been reported from the area.
