Security Forces Exchange Fire With Naxals In Malkangiri

Malkangiri: An exchange of fire between security forces and Naxals took place yesterday along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district, informed police on Wednesday.

Reportedly, based on reliable intelligence input, an Anti-Naxal Operation was launched yesterday involving SOG and DVF teams of Odisha Police, BSF teams, and Andhra Pradesh Police teams in the general area of Gunamamudi village of Bhimaram Reserve forest area under Papermetla PS limit of Swabhiman Anchal along Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border.

When the operational parties were combing the jungle area near Gunamamudi village on the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, suddenly unprovoked firing came upon them from the Maoist side.

In order to save their lives, operational parties also retaliated and started controlled firing over Maoists. Maoist managed to run from that area taking benefit of the jungle and hilly terrain.

Subsequently, after the exchange of fire, the area was thoroughly searched and a large cache of arms and ammunitions along with various Maoists literature and items used by them were recovered.

It is suspected that these articles belonged to AOBSZC Cadres which were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces for anti-national subversive activities. Further operations are being continued in this area.
