Security Protocols Under Scanner As Drone Spotted Flying Over Jagannath Temple Again

Bhubaneswar: A security breach at the Jagannath Temple in Puri has sparked concern after a drone was spotted flying over restricted zones on Tuesday.

According to sources, the drone hovered near the Neelachakra and surrounding pathways for approximately 25 minutes. However, the source of the drone is still unknown. A written complaint has been filed at the Singhadwar police station.

This incident marks the second such breach in recent weeks, following a similar occurrence on January 5, where a drone was seen flying over the temple for about 30 minutes. The repeated breaches have raised questions about the effectiveness of the temple’s security protocols.

Meanwhile, Puri SP Vinit Agarwal has issued a stern warning, stating that strong action will be taken against the individual responsible for flying the drone over the restricted area. To identify the person involved, police are currently verifying CCTV footage, and once identified, the wrongdoer will face severe consequences.

It is pertinent to mention that the 12th-century-old Jagannath Temple holds immense cultural and religious significance for millions of devotees across India. To address the security concerns, the state government has declared the airspace above the temple as a no-fly zone, prohibiting the flying of drones or any other objects without permission.
