Bhubaneswar: Four individuals, claiming to be monks, were detained at the Maitri Vihar police limits on Saturday after being suspected of theft.
According to reports, the suspects were posing as ‘babas’ and were soliciting alms from residents in the Maitri Vihar area.
When locals gave them Rs 10, the suspects demanded more money. This raised suspicion among the residents, who then informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, Maitri Vihar police acted swiftly and detained the four individuals.
Following their investigation and identity verification, it was revealed that the suspects were from Rajasthan. The police are currently looking into their criminal backgrounds.
This incident is particularly significant in light of recent reports of a major burglary and robbery at local apartments.
In response, the Commissionerate Police has stepped up surveillance efforts to curb such crimes in the city.
