Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader Ashok Sahu passed away today.
Sahu, a former IPS officer died at his Pithapur residence in Cuttack following prolonged illness, family sources said.
He was 68. Political leaders across party lines have condoled Sahu’s death.
Sahu had unsuccessfully contested as a BJP candidate from Kandhamal and Puri Lok Sabha seats in 2009 and 2014 respectively.
He was keen to contest from the Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat where a by-election was held on October 15 in 2014.
He was, however, denied a ticket and the BJP had fielded former party MP Rudra Madhav Ray in Kandhamal who too lost the polls.
Immediately after the by-poll results were announced, Sahu had raised the question on social media as to why the Modi magic was not working in Odisha and the party should introspect about that.
Following his statements on social media, Sahu who was then BJP State unit’s Vice-president was suspended from the party on charge of indiscipline.
