Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and the vice-president of Sambalpur District Congress Ashok Beriha passed away at the age of 70 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
A native of Daleipada in Sambalpur, Ashok was a lifelong Congress member who was interested in social work and politics from an early age. He was a former councilor of Sambalpur Municipality, secretary of the Provincial Congress Committee and a member of many cultural institutions, including the Odisha Cultural Society and the Lions Club.
His last rites were performed at the local Rajghat in the presence of a small number of people as per the Covid rules. Many leaders and politicians across party lines have extended condolences to his bereaved family members and respectful tributes to the departed soul.
