Bhubaneswar: A senior police officer in the State has been asked to revert to his natural hair colour after a photo of him with bright red hair went viral on social media.
Jagatsinghpur Deputy Superintendent of Police Rashmi Ranjan Das, 49, found himself in the spotlight after pictures of him reporting for duty with dyed hair sparked widespread attention online.
The incident prompted a swift response from his superiors, with the Inspector General of Police (Central Range), Satyajit Naik, directing Das to change his hair colour. “Everyone in the police force should respect the uniform and prioritize discipline and public decorum,” Naik said.
While there’s no specific rule governing hairstyles, senior officers expect personnel to maintain a simple appearance. Sources said Das had been informally advised earlier to reconsider his look, but hadn’t complied.
“I instructed the Jagatsinghpur SP to tell the officer to maintain decorum and keep his hairstyle decent, befitting a man in uniform,” Naik said.
“We have told the officer to maintain decency. Everything cannot go by written orders. From constables to senior officers, everyone in the police service should respect the uniform and give utmost priority to decency,” he said.
