Balasore: The district police have arrested a senior technical officer of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on charges of espionage. The employee in question was employed with the DRDO at Interim Test Range at Chandipur, IG Police, Eastern Range Himanshu Lal said.
The accused was allegedly honeytrapped by a Pakistani woman who shared explicit photos and videos in exchange for sensitive defence and missile testing-related information, said Lal. The IG Police and Balasore SP Sagarika Nath conducted a presser here on Friday.
The case was registered on the written report of complainant sub-inspector Chandra Sekhar Mohanty of Chandipur police station. The accused has been booked by Chandipur police under Sections – 120-A, 120-B, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3,4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, Nath said. The mobile phone of the ITR employee has been seized.
“A senior ranking employee of ITR Chandipur has managed to transmit/share the secrets of sensitive defence information regarding missile test etc to one foreign agent of Pakistan for sexual as well as monetary gratification over WhatsApp conversation in which sexual images and videos were exchanged,” added Lal.
