Cuttack: A tusker that sustained bullet injury on its trunk was writhing in pain, in Narasinghpur forests. The tusker was spotted by locals in a dire condition following which youth leader Nirmal Jena apprised former Minister and local MLA Debi Prasad Mishra to help.
Mishra, called up the newly appointed Forest and Environment Minister Pradeep Amat to facilitate medical assistance for the elephant. “I have requested the Minister for zoologists from Nandankanan and rushing veterinary specialists to the spot,” said Mishra.
The senior BJD leader also advised Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani to depute an officer for communication and arrangements.
According to reports, the elephant has sustained multiple bullet injuries on its body and this was the act of a poacher. Veterinary specialist Dr Bijay Kumar Senapati who attended the wounded tusker first said that it has injuries on trunk, face, and front-right leg.
