Bhubaneswar: Leaving behind a void in Odisha’s journalism space, senior journalist Ranjit Guru breathed his last on Saturday night. He was 61 years old.
As per reports, Guru was undergoing treatment in a private hospital of capital city since August 1. He had been admitted following an infection-related illness. On Saturday, his condition became critical and he was kept on ventilator.
Guru was the Editor of Sambad’s Editorial page and had been associated with the group for the last 35 years. He was also known as a columnist and panelist. Guru had stints with leading newspapers like ‘Anandabazar Patrika’ and ‘The Asian Age’ as well.
Born in Bargarh, Guru completed his MA and M.Phil degree in Sambalpur University. He is survived by his wife and daughter, who is pursuing medicine. The last rites of Guru will be performed in Sambalpur today, family sources informed.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief on the death of the senior journalist. His contribution for journalism as well as for Odia art and culture was immmense, Naveen said. He conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
