Bhubaneswar: A senior servitor of Sakhigopal temple was allegedly attacked by two non-servitors of the temple over an issue pertaining to the entry of non-servitors to the temple premises, on Tuesday.
The senior servitor and former temple secretary Kishore Chandra Mohapatra received severe injuries in his chest after being attacked by two non-servitors Krushnachandra Mohapatra and Kirti Ranjan Mohapatra. He was rushed to Satyabadi Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, the Sakhigopal Temple Servitors’ Association called a meeting at Jageswari Mandap on Tuesday. In the meeting, Mohapatra raised his voice against the entry of non-servitors to the temple, leading to a heated argument between Mohapatra and two other servitors. Mohapatra accused Krushnachandra and Kirti Ranjan of extorting devotees identifying themselves as temple servitros.
Enraged over it, Krushnachandra and Kirti Ranjan attacked Mohapatra in the presence of the outfit president and secretary.
On a tip-off, Satyabadi police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.
