Serious Effort Needed To Bring Down Daily Case Count In Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Says Director Health

Bhubaneswar: Daily count of Covid positive cases in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar which has been maintaining a plateau needs to be brought down and this needs to be taken up seriously, said Director of Health Services, Dr Bijay Mohapatra.

“To bring that down there should not be any let up on our part in surveillance, vaccination should continue and people should adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour,” pointed out Dr Mohapatra.

Dr Mohapatra said that there has been no let-up in his department’s activities rather those are being increased.

“A pandemic can be only controlled when the government and the community join hands, otherwise can’t happen,” he added.

The Director of Health Services attributed the floating population in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to one of the major reasons for the infection rate not declining beyond a certain level in these cities.

“People are coming by plane, train and all other means, the one who is coming here might be an asymptomatic carrier which we do not know. If s/he is having fever we are isolating him/her but if s/he is an asymptomatic carrier then s/he shall propagate,” he said.

Dr Mohaptra said the second factor is that there is violation of Covid guidelines in these cities.

“Unless there is violation why is the administration sealing shops etc.?” he asked.

The third factor he said is that we have to accept the fact there cannot be a zero positivity rate for Corona.

Dr Mohapatra has, however, pointed out that over the last 15 days rate of hospitalisation and severity has gone down in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and added that ICU and ventilator occupancy has also decreased.
