Bhubaneswar: A court in Keonjhar today sentenced seven persons to life imprisonment in a murder case that took place four years ago in the district.
The additional district sessions court heard the case and held seven accused guilty of murdering a man on suspicion of witchcraft. Based on the statements of 13 witnesses and other evidence, the court has sentenced all the accused to life imprisonment and fined each of them of Rs 10,000.
They would undergo a further six months jail term in case of default of payment of fine.
On April 14, 2019, Dinbandhu Munda of Sendakapa village under Keonjhar Sadar police station was brutally murdered on suspicion of practicing black magic.
Seven persons from the same village- Rabindra Munda, Narhari Munda, Balabhadra Munda, Baisakhu Munda, Chema Munda, Tura Munda and Tima Munda called Dinabandhu to the nearest Anganwadi Center and murdered him.
Keonjhar Sadar police had registered a case and arrested all the accused before forwarding them to court.
