Baripada: In a heartwarming tale of resilience, a seven-year-old who lost her left leg in a road accident has got a new lease of life after doctors at SCB Medical College and Hospital fitted her with a prosthetic leg.
Thanks to the artificial limb, Vaishnavi Singh from Mayurbhanj district can now carry out her daily chores independently.
According to reports, Vaishnavi Singh from Mayurbhanj met with a road mishap on March 13 while going to a fair with her uncle. As a result, her left leg was completely severed from the thigh. Following this, she was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where a team of doctors, led by Dr Bhibhuti Bhusan Nayak, the Head of the Plastic Surgery Department, performed a successful surgery. Three days after the operation, it was discovered that the operated leg had become severely damaged due to infections. If the leg wasn’t amputated, it would be challenging to save Vaishnavi’s life. Therefore, doctors decided to amputate her left leg below the knee.
With the support of the state government and Mayurbhanj MLA, a prosthetic leg was successfully fitted to her left leg.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has assured that it will take care of Vaishnavi’s future medical needs. The Plastic Surgery Department team is optimistic that Vaishnavi will lead a normal life with her new prosthetic leg.
