Bhubaneswar: The Depression over Southeast and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past 03 hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, same region near Latitude 9.3°N and Longitude 86.2°E, about 760 km east-southeast of Puducherry, 780 km east-southeast of Chennai, 960 km southeast of Bapatla and 940 km southeast of Machilipatnam.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards, intensify into a Deep Depression by 2nd and further into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest Bay of Bengal around 3rd December. Thereafter, it would move northwestwards and cross South Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Tamil Nadu coasts between Chennai and Machilipatnam around evening of 4th December as a Cyclonic Storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), said in its midday weather bulletin on Friday.
The IMD has said that under the impact of cyclonic storm, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam on Monday. The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for these districts.
The IMD has forecast that on Monday light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Puri, and at a few places over the rest districts of coastal Odisha, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Boudh, & at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.
Similarly, on Tuesday IMD has issued an Orange alert warning likely occurrence of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam, while heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri.
The IMD has said that light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur on Tuesday at most places over the districts of South coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur and at many places over the rest districts of south interior Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at a few places over the districts of north interior Odisha.
On Wednesday light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and at many places over the districts of Nawarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, North Coastal Odisha & at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, the IMD said.
Similarly, on Thursday light to moderate rain/ thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha, the IMD added.
The weather agency has warned that squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely from 4th December evening along and off Odisha coast (Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur) and is likely to gradually increase becoming 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph from 5th December evening for subsequent 12 hours. It would gradually decrease thereafter. Rough to Very Rough sea condition is likely from 4th December evening. Also strong surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph likely over Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts of Odisha on 5th December.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of southwest Bay of Bengal from 1st December and West Central Bay of Bengal from 2nd December, along & off South Odisha coast from 4th December evening till further notice. Whoever out at sea is advised to return to coast by 1st December.
