Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu notified Friday prohibiting employing laborers for outdoor work from 11.00 am to 3:30 pm, given the soaring temperatures and prevailing heatwave.
It is worth mentioning here that 41 people succumbed to the heatwave in western Odisha in a single day on Thursday raising concerns.
The notification read, “Life has been thrown out of gear across Odisha due to the severe heatwave. In such a situation, the risk of death and various health ailments has increased in the state. However, the state government is ready to deal with the situation.”
The order has been issued to monitor the workers. All Revenue Commissioners and District Collectors have been directed to take appropriate preventive measures. At the same time, they have been advised to make special arrangements for workers engaged in essential services.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Director informed the media today that arrangements have been made to reserve six beds in each Community Health Center (CHC) and one in each Primary Health Center (PHC) in each district for sunstroke treatment. Hospital authorities have been directed to arrange adequate drinking water supply and ORS for people affected by the heatwave.
The SRC has communicated detailed instructions to all District Collectors and Departments for preparedness and preventive measures because of the heatwave season.
