Angul: The Nalconagar police in Angul district dismantled a sex racket operating out of the Basla Huttings slum on Wednesday, arresting one person and rescuing five women.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off and undercover investigation by the police.
Among the rescued women, one is reported to be from Bengal, while the remaining are from Odisha.
The police also seized several incriminating items, including five mobile phones and an autorickshaw, during the operation.
According to sources, a team of police officers posing as customers contacted the woman allegedly running the racket.
After gathering solid evidence, the Nalconagar police, in coordination with the Special Squad, conducted a surprise raid in the afternoon. The operation led to the arrest of 28-year-old Bijay Gocchayat from Gotamara.
Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the illegal activity.
