Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched the Shaktishree initiative to ensure the safety and empowerment of female students in higher education institutions across the state.
As part of this programme, the Higher Education Department has directed all vice-chancellors of state public universities and principals of government and non-government aided colleges to establish Shaktishree Empowerment Cells by August 25.
Key Components of Shaktishree Empowerment Cell
– Shaktishree Sanjojika: A female faculty member nominated to provide guidance and monitor cell activities
– Shaktishree Saathi: A peer leader among girl students who will coordinate with Sanjojika and peers to conduct training sessions and workshops
– Female Class Representatives: One from each department, selected by the Head of the Department, to assist Sanjojika and Saathi in conducting cell activities
Roles and Activities:
– Serve as proactive agents of change to promote gender equality and empowerment
– Conduct 6-day self-defence training intensive programs
– Organize workshops, seminars, and programs aligned with the Year-Round Thematic Shaktishree Calendar
– Conduct IEC activities and awareness campaigns on women’s safety and rights
– Address issues related to gender-based violence and advocate for safety measures
– Conduct weekly practice sessions including physical exercises, yoga, and meditation
Timeline:
– August 14: Last date for selection of Female Class Representatives
– August 20: Last date for selection of Shaktishree Saathi
– August 25: Last date for establishment of Shaktishree Empowerment Cell
