Nabarangpur: In a shocking and shameful act, some villagers of Tarangapuri (Nuapara) village under Kundei police limits of Nabarangpur district on Friday tied a minor girl to a pole in the middle of the village and thrashed her black and blue for allegedly stealing chappals and cash.

Adding salt to injury the villagers put a garland of footwear on her neck.

Kundei police have arrested four of the perpetrators of the crime. The accused have been identified as Bhagi Gonda, Janaka Gonda, Jala Gonda and Aganu Gonda. The accused have been forwarded to court.

According to delayed reports reaching here, at around 8 AM on Friday a few villagers of Tarangpuri caught hold of a 13-year-old girl tied her to a pole in the middle of the village. Then they put a garland of footwear around the poor kid’s neck and showered her with slaps and blows.

The reason for the kid’s miserable state was that she was not admitting to have stolen Rs 900 and chappals from a house in the village.

Following a written complaint by the minor girl’s father on Friday afternoon, Kundei police have registered a case in this connection.

Further investigation by the police in the matter is underway and more arrests are likely.
