Bhubaneswar: Childline authorities have recently rescued a newborn baby who was allegedly sold by his parents. This unfortunate incident took place at Saundi village under Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district.
According to sources, Silu Jena’s wife Sanju gave birth to a baby boy on Monday. However, Sanju was not happy after giving birth to a baby boy as she had already a son. That’s why the couple is reported to have sold the newborn just because they wanted a baby girl.
Following their return to the villagers, fellow villagers asked them about their baby boy. As both Silu and Sanju failed to give satisfactory reply, villagers suspected the couple of selling their newborn for the sake of money and took the matter to Childline authorities.
Childline launched a probe into the matter and rescued the child with the help of local police on Tuesday.
Police meanwhile detained the couple for interrogation to know in which circumstances they sold the child.
The newborn was produced before the District Child Welfare Committee after undergoing the medical test. Childline authorities are currently taking care of the child.
