Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a couple from Bihar allegedly sold their four-year-old daughter for ₹40,000.
The matter came to light after Sarthak Mohanty, the landlord of the couple’s rented accommodation, filed a complaint with the Badagada police.
According to the complaint, the couple sold their daughter to another couple residing in the Pipili area with the involvement of two middlemen.
Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation and tracked down the buyers in Pipili. The child was rescued, and both the selling and buying couples, along with the two intermediaries, have been detained for questioning.
“We are interrogating the individuals involved to uncover the reason behind the sale of the girl child,” a police official said. “Further investigation into the case is underway.”
The rescued child is currently under the care of authorities, and the incident has raised serious concerns about child trafficking and exploitation.
