Kendrapara: In a heart-wrenching incident, a couple and their 25-year-old son allegedly died by suicide over suspected family issues at Rajendra Nagar under Talachuan Marine police station in Kendrapara district on Sunday.
The body of Sridam Mandal was found hanging beside the outer wall of his house while the bodies of his wife Jayanti (45) and son Parikhita (25) were found lying inside the house.
Jayanti’s body was lying on the ground while her son Parikhit was found dead on the bed inside their room which was locked from inside.
Villagers found Sridam hanging from the wall and later found the room locked from inside. Jayanti and Parikhit didn’t respond from inside when neighbours called them by knocking on the doors.
Sensing trouble, they informed the police who rushed to the scene and broke open the door in the presence of the magistrate only to find the bodies of mother-son duo.
“We don’t know the exact reason behind the incident. But, family issues might be the cause behind it. The mother-son duo died allegedly by consuming poison while father Sridam hanged himself,” said a local.
Police seized the bodies and sent them for autopsy in the presence of local magistrate.
An investigation has been launched into the matter. The exact reason of the death can only be ascertained after post-mortem, police said.
