Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a man allegedly fed poison to his two minor children before consuming it himself in Gajapati.
The accused father, identified as Subhashis Panigrahi, allegedly gave the deadly substances to his 8-year-old son Bijayananda and his 11-year-old daughter Priyadarshini. Bijayananda died while his sister is struggling for life in the hospital.
The incident occurred when Subhashis, reportedly under severe mental distress following the death of his wife Sweta, on March 21, 2025, administered poison to his children and then consumed it himself.
The trio was rushed to Paralakhemundi Hospital, where Bijayananda was declared dead. Subhashis and Priyadarshini were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur due to their deteriorating condition.
The Paralakhemundi Police have initiated an investigation, seizing Bijayananda’s body for post-mortem and questioning relatives and neighbours. The exact reason behind Subhashis’s drastic action is yet to be determined.
