Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a Plus II student was brutally set on fire by three miscreants at Bayabara village under Nimapara Block in Puri district on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred while the girl was walking to her friend’s house in Bayabari village under Balanga police station.
According to eyewitnesses, the bike-borne youths reportedly intercepted the girl and poured a flammable substance on her before setting her ablaze. They fled the scene, leaving the victim to writhe in pain. Listening to her screams, locals came to her rescue and took her to Pipili hospital.
The victim who suffered severe burn injuries has been referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar for specialised treatment.
Importantly, the incident, occurring approximately 5-7 km from the Balanga police station, has sent shockwaves and triggered widespread panic in the locality.
Upon being informed, Balanga police launched an investigation to nab the accused and ascertain the reason behind it. Further details are awaited.
The attack has raised concerns, particularly in the aftermath of the recent self-immolation incident involving a Fakir Mohan College student in Balasore, leaving the community on edge and demanding swift action against the perpetrators.
