Mayurbhanj: In a bizarre incident, two men were reportedly nabbed red-handed while eating half-burnt human flesh in a crematorium in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The incident has sparked tension at Bandhasahi village and nearby areas under Badashai police limits in the district.
According to reports, Madhusmita Singh (25) of Bandhasahi village fell ill on Tuesday and was admitted to a nearby hospital. Madhusmita succumbed to her ailment and his body was sent to Baripada Hospital for post-mortem. The body was subsequently taken to Mashani village for cremation.
According to the deceased’s father Somai Singh, as it was raining, the body did not burn completely. Seeing this, an elderly suggested that they would help by burning the body in a pot. After obtaining permission from the deceased’s father, he and a youth chopped the liver of the corpse into three parts and, instead of burning them, they started eating the half-burnt parts.
Shocked over the developments, the local villagers nabbed both the accused and thrashed them before informing the police. On their arrival, the police took the accused into custody and placated the angered villagers.
When the villagers asked them why they consumed the half-burnt flesh of the corpse, the two accused Sundormon Singh and Bhoron Singh said that they were intoxicated and consumed the flesh as snacks. The deceased’s father has demanded stern action against the accused not only for eating human flesh but also because the accused violated the customs of the tribal community.
Meanwhile, Badashai police IIC Sanjay Kumar Parida told the media that two people have been detained based on the villagers’ complaint. A preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the two accused Sundormon Singh and Bhoron Singh were intoxicated.
