Puri: Use of polythene and plastics will be soon restricted in Shree Jagannath Temple, a decision in this regard has been taken by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
According to reports, Ranjan Kumar Das, Chief Administrator, SJTA has appealed to devotees and various ‘sevayat nijogs’ (temple servitor bodies) through social media groups to carry flowers and other offerings (including bhog) in paper and cotton bags, bamboo and palm leaf baskets instead of carrying these in polythene carry bags or plastic articles.
The SJTA targets to strictly impose the restrictions from New Year’s Day as an effort to maintain cleanliness inside the temple premises.
Worth mentioning, attempts were made in 2020 to make Shree Jagannath Temple polythene-free.
